Ukrainian Forces Advance in Sumy Region Amid Ongoing Russian Attacks
On June 28 and 29, 2025, Ukrainian soldiers made significant advances in the northern Sumy region, according to a report from the Institute for the Study of War (ISW). This information was corroborated by geolocation videos published on June 28, indicating a recent Ukrainian push south of Oleksiivka, located north of the city of Sumy, reports 24brussels.
ISW reported that Russian forces launched attacks in the Sumy direction during the same period, specifically north of the city near Andriivka and northeast near Yablunivka. Russian observers noted that Ukrainian troops counterattacked between Yablunivka and Kharpivshchyna, south of Yablunivka, as well as near Andriivka.
The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, in their morning report, stated that on the northern Slobozhansky and Kursk directions, Ukrainian forces successfully repelled 16 enemy assaults. Russian forces reportedly conducted 11 aerial strikes, dropping 29 guided bombs, and fired 352 artillery rounds, eight of which were from multiple rocket launch systems.
Earlier reports indicated that in the Donetsk region, particularly in the Kramatorsk direction, Ukrainian forces recently made gains toward the city of Chasiv Yar.
