Intense Fighting Reported in Zaporizhzhia Region as Russian Forces Employ New Tactics
Intense combat is ongoing in the vicinity of the settlements of Stepanhirk, Plavni, and Kamyanske on the Orikhiv front as Russian forces launch heavy airstrikes and drone attacks. The aggressor’s army aims to dislodge Ukrainian troops from these areas using new tactics, according to the spokesperson for Ukraine’s Southern Defense Forces, Vladyslav Voloshyn, on the “Suspilne” broadcast.
Voloshyn stated that rather than deploying small assault groups using motorcycles, buggies, and ATVs, Russian troops have shifted to a strategy of “saturation.” He explained that very small infantry groups, comprising one or two well-trained soldiers, attempt to infiltrate the rear of Ukraine’s Defense Forces while employing anti-thermal cloaks. Following this infiltration, the invaders wait for reinforcements before attempting to seize control of logistical routes.
Voloshyn also noted that this tactic was attempted by the occupiers last week near the Antonivsky Bridge in the Kherson region. “They tried to approach Ukrainian fighters through the reeds using anti-thermal cloaks and almost came into close combat, meaning live fire contact,” he emphasized.
The commander of the 65th Separate Mechanized Brigade, known by the call sign Forest, highlighted that enemy actions in this sector have become significantly more intense compared to previous years of full-scale war.
Earlier, the 210th Separate Assault Regiment reported that soldiers from the first assault battalion expelled Russian saboteurs and secured positions in the Zaporizhzhia direction. Voloshyn indicated that Ukrainian defenders have “cleansed” Stepanhirk of enemy reconnaissance and sabotage groups, reports 24brussels.
