Ukrainian Armed Forces Target Russian Explosives Factory and Oil Terminal in Crimea
In a significant overnight operation on October 6, Ukrainian defense forces struck a Russian explosives and munitions factory in the Nizhny Novgorod region, along with an oil and petroleum product transshipment complex in occupied Crimea, reports 24brussels.
According to Ukraine’s General Staff, the strike aimed to diminish the offensive capabilities and missile-strike potential of Russian forces. “Ukrainian defense units targeted the infrastructure of the federal state enterprise ‘Sverdlov Factory,'” the General Staff stated.
This factory is recognized as one of Russia’s largest manufacturers of explosives, capable of equipping nearly all types of ammunition, including:
- aviation and artillery shells;
- aviation bombs, including precision-guided munitions;
- explosive components for cumulative anti-tank guided missiles;
- ammunition for engineering troops;
- warheads for air defense missile systems.
The General Staff further indicated, “It cooperatively equips combat parts of unified joint service glide munitions. Numerous explosions and a fire were observed in the target area.”
Additionally, Ukrainian forces successfully targeted the Sea Oil Terminal in occupied Feodosia. This complex is vital for the transshipment of oil and petroleum products from railway tank cars to sea vessels and road transport, directly supporting Russian occupation forces. A fire was reported at the site following the successful strike.
Ukrainian military forces also hit an ammunition storage facility belonging to the separate battalion of material support for the 18th Combined Arms Army of Russia in occupied Crimea, with the results of the strike still being assessed.
The General Staff emphasized, “The defense forces continue to take all necessary measures to undermine the military-economic potential of Russian occupiers and compel Russia to cease its armed aggression against Ukraine.”
The oil terminal in Feodosia is the largest in Crimea and has been targeted multiple times in the past. Previously, out of 34 storage tanks, only 22 remain intact. The strike in October 2024 caused the most severe damage, affecting 12 fuel tanks, with eight completely destroyed, resulting in a fire that lasted more than a week. A recent attack occurred just a week prior to this latest operation.
