The 4th Separate Tank Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has been rebranded as the 4th Separate Heavy Mechanized Brigade (4 OVMBr), following a restructuring amid ongoing military conflicts. The changes are part of an adaptation process for UAF units and combat strategies.
This announcement was made on August 1 and reflects the evolving nature of warfare, emphasizing that the rebranding will preserve the brigade’s combat traditions while expanding its personnel.
The brigade was originally formed in March 2022 during the height of the Russian invasion, operating under its initial designation until now. Just two months after its establishment, the brigade engaged in its first battle in the village of Pisky, near Donetsk.
Since then, the brigade has participated in significant operations, including the liberation of Kharkiv Oblast and battles in Soledar, Bakhmut, and Avdiivka. Currently, the unit is deployed along the Kupiansk, Pokrovsk, and Zaporizhzhia fronts.
The brigade’s insignia remains unchanged, featuring a shoulder patch and the motto in Latin—Furor arma ministrat (“Fury guides the weapon”).
Additionally, Australia is providing 49 Abrams tanks to bolster Ukraine’s defense capabilities against ongoing aggression from Russia. The majority of these tanks have already been delivered, with the final batch expected in the coming months. This assistance package, valued at approximately $245 million, is part of a larger $1.5 billion aid commitment that Australia has made to Ukraine since the beginning of the conflict.
Furthermore, in August, Australia will deploy an E-7A Wedgetail aircraft to support the protection of critical international transport corridors used for delivering aid to Ukraine.
