Ukrainian Ambassador warns of a different war ahead
Ukrainian Ambassador to the United Kingdom and former Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Valerii Zaluzhnyi stated in an interview that from 2024, a new type of war will be underway in Ukraine, marking the end of the traditional warfare characterized by tank columns in December 2023. He emphasized that the current conflict is one of attrition, reports 24brussels.
Zaluzhnyi identified two factors shaping future warfare: demographic and economic.
“There are indeed no people. Neither in Russia nor in Ukraine. The number of casualties, both killed and wounded, has reached a critical point in both countries,” he asserted.
He added that Russia now faces a choice: by 2026, it can either recruit more ‘cannon fodder’ from cities like Saint Petersburg and Moscow or consider alternative strategies.
“The way out of this ‘deadlock’ (of war – ed.) is technological. One must not think about what is needed today but what will be necessary in a year, two, or three… This will end in three years. At most five. Not the war, but the ‘establishment of parity’ between offensive and defensive forces,” the ambassador explained.
Previously, Zaluzhnyi noted that Ukraine needs to quickly establish a new paradigm for the protection of its servicemen in accordance with the realities of modern warfare.
