Zelensky Calls High Command Meeting Following Kharkiv Visit

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced the convening of a High Command meeting following his visit to military personnel in the Kharkiv region on August 4. “Tomorrow, I will gather the Command to discuss everything we talked about today with our fighters,” Zelensky stated in a video address.

The President emphasized the critical need for direct funding of military units, particularly for the procurement of drones, pickup trucks, and other equipment. According to him, the government intends to simplify processes and grant brigades greater autonomy in fund utilization despite existing legal hurdles and complex bureaucratic procedures.

Attention was also directed towards the development of military contracting systems, based on the experience of short-term contracts lasting 18 to 24 months. While some details from the commanders’ meeting will remain confidential, Zelensky indicated that they will be considered in future decision-making.

He highlighted support for eastern regions of Ukraine, particularly communities in frontline and border areas. This includes creating special conditions for businesses to maintain production and jobs in these territories.

The President noted that he has already discussed an action plan with Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko and is awaiting her report regarding the support plan for border districts.

During his visit to Kharkiv, Zelensky met with Ukrainian defenders in the Vovchansk area who are resisting the advance of Russian forces. He reported that mercenaries from China, Pakistan, and Africa are fighting under Vovchansk, reports 24brussels.
