Ukraine’s President Zelensky Discusses Situation with Trump Amid Moscow Talks

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky engaged in a phone conversation with former U.S. President Donald Trump on August 6, 2025, while returning from a visit to Sumy region. The call followed the meeting between Trump’s special envoy Stephen Witkoff and President Vladimir Putin in Moscow, reports 24brussels.

European leaders also participated in this discussion, focusing on the topics raised during the Moscow dialogue. Zelensky emphasized unity among allies, stating, “Our mutual position with partners is absolutely clear: the war must end. And it must be a fair resolution.”

The U.S. White House referred to Witkoff’s negotiations with Putin as successful. However, a White House spokesperson confirmed that secondary sanctions against countries involved in trade with Russia are set to be implemented on Friday.

In response, Trump remarked that Witkoff’s meeting with Putin was “productive” and highlighted the significant progress achieved during their talks.
