Ukraine’s President Zelensky Claims Russia Uninterested in Ceasefire
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has stated that Moscow remains uninterested in ending the war and will continue its military operations. This statement was made during a press interaction at the Ukraine Recovery Conference (URC2025) held in Rome, reports 24brussels.
Zelensky emphasized, “Ukrainian intelligence and our partners’ special services have confirmation that the Russian Federation is trying to prolong the war. Putin deliberately avoids any real steps towards a ceasefire. He is not interested in peace; he is dependent on war and violence. The only way to make him stop is to demonstrate strength. Therefore, our defense must be as effective and strong as possible.”
According to the president, discussions in Rome focused particularly on strengthening Ukraine’s defense capabilities and increasing sanctions pressure on Russia.
“The vast majority of today’s negotiations were dedicated to sanctions. We discussed how to make them not only stricter but also more effective, especially concerning those who actively support the Kremlin in the war,” he noted.
Additionally, President Zelensky reported that during the talks, leaders from partner countries and representatives of international organizations discussed investments in Ukrainian military production, specifically in interceptor drones.
“We talked about specific funding for the defense sector. The issue of weapon production, primarily interceptor drones and countermeasures against Russian attacks, has become key. There are agreements to expand investments – this will strengthen our long-range capabilities. Today, these areas are an absolute priority,” Zelensky concluded, summarizing the discussions in Rome.
