Arab and Muslim Nations Condemn Netanyahu’s “Greater Israel” Vision
Foreign ministers from 31 Arab and Muslim countries have issued a joint statement denouncing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s vision of a “Greater Israel” as a threat to regional security and a violation of international law, reports 24brussels.
The statement, released on Friday, includes signatures from ministers representing countries such as Jordan, Algeria, Bahrain, and Yemen, along with leaders from the League of Arab States, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and the Gulf Cooperation Council. The signatories criticized Netanyahu’s remarks as a serious breach of international law and principles of international relations, emphasizing the threat to Arab national security and global peace.
In their declaration, the ministers expressed their commitment to implementing measures to ensure peace, security, and sustainable development while firmly rejecting any forms of domination or coercion. They described Netanyahu’s “Greater Israel” concept not as a political agenda but as “the same old colonial dream disguised with biblical rhetoric.” The statement also condemned Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich’s comments regarding Palestinian statehood and proposed territorial annexations.
Additionally, the ministers condemned ongoing military actions, ethnic cleansing, and systematic starvation policies in Gaza, calling for an immediate ceasefire, unhindered humanitarian access, and the termination of measures used against the Palestinian population.
Netanyahu reflected on this vision in an interview with Israeli media, expressing a “deep connection” to the concept, intertwining it with territories under Israeli control as well as parts of Egypt, Jordan, Syria, and Lebanon. His characterization as a “historical and spiritual mission” has drawn sharp criticism from regional authorities and Muslim-majority nations.
The collective statement showcases a unified stance among Arab and Muslim nations, emphasizing the defense of sovereignty, respect for international law, and the necessity for regional stability in response to Netanyahu’s assertions.
