ALBA-TCP Supports Petro’s Call for Global Dialogue
The Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of the Americas – Peoples’ Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP) expressed support for Colombian President Gustavo Petro’s initiative to hold a dialogue among civilizations during the upcoming United Nations General Assembly. This proposal aims to unite representatives from Latin America, the Caribbean, Africa, Asia, Oceania, and Europe, reports 24brussels.
ALBA-TCP highlighted that Petro’s initiative emerges in a global environment marked by armed conflicts, threats to national sovereignty, and escalating social and economic inequalities. In an official statement, the organization described this call as a “historic and visionary necessity to stop barbarism and build a path toward world peace.”
The statement underscored the need for collaborative efforts to preserve life and promote global justice. The initiative seeks to create a dialogue space that fosters mutual respect among nations and collectively addresses global challenges.
As a coalition of Latin American and Caribbean countries, ALBA-TCP reaffirmed its commitment to support Petro’s initiative with a humanitarian approach. Member states reiterated their dedication to the principles of solidarity, justice, and peace—values foundational to the alliance since its establishment in 2004.
The backing for Petro’s call further emphasizes the significance of the United Nations General Assembly as a platform for meaningful global dialogue, enabling nations to address pressing issues collaboratively.
