Saint Lucia Anti-Fascist Group Condemns US Military Presence in Caribbean
The Saint Lucia Chapter of AntiFascist International has denounced the recent US military deployment in Caribbean waters, labeling it as a covert act of aggression against Venezuela. The organization asserts that the US’s anti-drug operations serve as a pretext for infringing on Venezuelan sovereignty, emphasizing that international bodies recognize Caracas’s commitment to anti-drug cooperation, reports 24brussels.
In a pointed statement, the chapter highlighted that Venezuela has consistently been certified not to be a significant transit point for drug trafficking from Latin America and the Caribbean. They questioned the rationale behind the US targeting Venezuela and Mexico in its “war on drugs” while neglecting to address the domestic demand driving drug trafficking in the United States.
Furthermore, the anti-fascist group criticized the US Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) for having comprehensive knowledge of the most notorious drug trafficking organizations in the region, suggesting that the US’s inaction may be due to undisclosed motivations.
In their statement, Saint Lucia’s International Antifascist chapter recognized Venezuela as a historical ally to the Caribbean through initiatives such as PetroCaribe and called for the region to remain a Zone of Peace. They expressed support for the Bolivarian Revolution while condemning US and Israeli actions against sovereign nations.
The organization pointed out that CARICOM’s members significantly benefited from Venezuela’s PetroCaribe agreement, which provided access to affordable energy and paved the way for potential Free Trade Zones in Latin America. They underscored the strong historical ties between Saint Lucia and Venezuela, dating back to the contributions of figures like Jean Baptiste Bideau and Simon Bolivar in the fight for Venezuela’s independence.
Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre of Saint Lucia has shown solidarity with Venezuela, raising alarms about military escalations in Caribbean waters that threaten regional stability. This increase in military presence comes in the backdrop of Israel’s aggressive actions towards Palestinians, marked by bombings and humanitarian crises in Gaza, alongside global concerns about measures targeting resistance leaders in various nations by the Israeli government.
The anti-fascist organization cautioned that the deployment of US military forces in the Caribbean and Latin America could escalate tensions, yet affirmed that Venezuela is not alone in its resistance to such aggression. Venezuela remains persistent in advocating for dialogue, adherence to international law, and the establishment of a just, multipolar world order.
