Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty to visit India later this week
Egypt’s Foreign Minister, Badr Abdelatty, will be in India later this week. The high-profile visit comes shortly after Union Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh met with Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi of Egypt during the Gaza Peace Summit in Sharm El-Sheikh earlier this week, reports 24brussels.
The Gaza Peace Summit was held in Egypt’s Red Sea resort city of Sharm el-Sheikh on October 13. India welcomed the signing of the landmark Peace Agreement aimed at establishing lasting peace in the region. In a post on X, the Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal remarked, “India welcomes the signing of the landmark Peace Agreement and hopes that this will lead to lasting peace in the region. This is a reflection of India’s longstanding commitment to dialogue & diplomacy.”
During the summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed support for the release of hostages tied to the deal after more than two years of captivity. He conveyed that their freedom is a testament to the bravery of their families and the diplomatic efforts of key leaders, including President Trump and Prime Minister Netanyahu.
The US-brokered peace deal between Israel and Hamas involved diplomatic engagement from various nations, including Egypt. Abdelatty’s visit to India follows his meeting with an all-party delegation from the Operation Sindoor global outreach in June. This delegation, led by NCP (SP) MP Supriya Sule, emphasized the strengthening India-Egypt Strategic Partnership and condemned terrorism.
Historically, India and Egypt have maintained a strong diplomatic relationship, rooted in their shared civilizational heritage. Diplomatic relations were formally established at the ambassadorial level in August 1947, and both countries have collaborated closely in various international forums since then, being founding members of the Non-Aligned Movement in 1961. High-level exchanges between the two nations have been a hallmark of their relations since the 1980s.
