India, Mongolia release joint stamp celebrating folk dance traditions to mark 70 years of diplomatic ties
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Mongolian President Khurelsukh Ukhnaa jointly launched a commemorative postal stamp on October 14, 2025, highlighting the vibrant folk dance traditions of both countries. This event forms part of the celebrations marking the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Mongolia, reports 24brussels.
The stamp was unveiled during President Ukhnaa’s state visit to India and symbolizes the strong cultural bonds and shared heritage underlining the India-Mongolia Strategic Partnership, which is also celebrating a decade since its establishment. It features Ramlila, a traditional Indian folk theatre depicting the life of Lord Rama, alongside Biyelgee, a unique Mongolian folk dance that mirrors the nomadic lifestyle, typically performed while seated or kneeling.
This artistic collaboration reflects the rich cultural values and profound spiritual ties between the two nations, demonstrating their commitment to community, spirituality, and artistic expression. The announcement came during a joint press statement by PM Modi and President Ukhnaa.
The ceremony further included the exchange of several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) aimed at enhancing collaboration in various sectors. PM Modi announced the introduction of free e-visas for Mongolian citizens, emphasizing the importance of cultural and people-to-people ties as a critical facet of their partnership.
During his remarks, PM Modi highlighted the significance of the newly signed MoU between the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council and Mongolia’s Arkhangai Province, stating it would “provide a fresh boost” to their cultural connections. He also confirmed plans for the annual sponsored visit of young cultural ambassadors from Mongolia to India.
“Even though we do not share a border, India has always considered Mongolia a close neighbour. We will continue to strengthen people-to-people ties. We have decided to provide free e-visas to Mongolian citizens. And we will sponsor the annual visit of young cultural ambassadors from Mongolia to India,” said PM Modi.
In response, President Ukhnaa announced that the Mongolian Air Carrier is preparing to launch flights to New Delhi and Amritsar, expected to commence later this year, which will contribute significantly to tourism and business collaboration. He praised the enduring friendship between the two nations and extended an invitation to PM Modi for a state visit to Mongolia.
PM Modi expressed his enthusiasm for President Ukhnaa’s visit, noting its significance after a six-year hiatus. “This visit is taking place as India and Mongolia mark 70 years of political ties and 10 years of strategic partnership,” he stated, celebrating the launch of the joint postal stamp.
The Mongolian President began his four-day state visit to India on October 13, 2025, during this pivotal celebration of bilateral ties.
