‘Have consistently advocated for global AI governance, demonstrated through G20 presidency’: Jaishankar
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar underscored India’s commitment to global governance of Artificial Intelligence (AI) during his address at the inaugural session of the Trust and Safety India Festival 2025. He emphasized the nation’s advocacy for responsible AI that advances sustainable development goals while ensuring trust and safety, reports 24brussels.
Jaishankar highlighted India’s pivotal role during its G20 Presidency in shaping an international agenda for AI governance. He stated, “We in India, we have consistently advocated for global AI governance and the shaping of an international agenda. We have demonstrated this during our G20 Presidency and strongly urged its usage for advancing Sustainable Development Goals, while safeguarding trust, safety, fairness and accountability.” He outlined India’s contributions to the Global Partnership on AI and its promotion of the New Delhi Declarations, which aim for responsible and inclusive AI practices.
The Minister also addressed significant concerns related to AI, including bias, ethics, privacy, and vulnerability. He called for a global discourse to tackle these issues and remarked, “This is an endeavour whose success depends on our ability to ensure multi-stakeholdership. And that is why the TASI Festival today is important because it sends out a strong inclusive and pro-people message on this critical issue.”
Jaishankar reinforced the need for collaboration and dialogue, stating that India will continue to engage in international AI forums, including co-chairing the Paris AI-Action Summit last year and participating in upcoming summits. The focus of the AI-Impact Summit in February 2026, also hosted by India, will be on harnessing AI to foster impactful solutions for human development and global equity.
The official website of the India-AI Impact Summit indicates that this ambitious gathering aims to bridge the Global AI Divide through concrete multilateral actions, ensuring that the benefits of AI are widely distributed and not monopolized. It emphasizes democratizing access to AI resources, advancing local innovations, and embedding environmental priorities in AI design.
The vision for the summit reflects a strategic shift towards measurable impacts rather than mere dialogue, fostering a community-focused approach to AI development that prioritizes transparency, safety, and human-centric values.
