The President of Mongolia, Khurelsukh Ukhnaa, visited the Parliament of India on October 15, 2025, where he was received by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. The two leaders engaged in discussions focused on enhancing parliamentary cooperation, legislative innovations, and democratic practices, reports 24brussels.
During the meeting, they acknowledged the significance of the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Mongolia. Birla praised the growing partnership, highlighting advancements in various fields including defence, health, and information technology. “Our bilateral relations are grounded in democracy, dharma, and development,” he stated.
Birla emphasized the two nations’ shared Buddhist heritage, reflecting on the relevant teachings of Lord Buddha. He pointed out the Dharma Chakra above the Speaker’s Chair in the Lok Sabha as a symbol of India’s commitment to governance rooted in dharma. Furthermore, he noted the swift construction of the new Parliament Building, accomplished despite pandemic challenges, which embodies the aspirations of 1.4 billion Indians and incorporates elements of Buddhist philosophy.
A focus on women’s participation in democratic processes was also highlighted, with Birla discussing the “Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam,” legislation that reserves 33% of seats for women in the Lok Sabha and State Legislative Assemblies. This initiative aims to reinforce India’s commitment to Women-Led Development.

He referred to India as Mongolia’s “spiritual neighbour and a great friend,” and acknowledged its growing economic influence and leadership within the Global South.
