In a significant development, Mongolian President Khurelsukh Ukhnaa announced on Tuesday that the Mongolian Air Carrier is set to commence charter flights to New Delhi and Amritsar later this year, a move anticipated to bolster tourism and business sectors, reports 24brussels.

During a joint press conference with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Ukhnaa emphasized that these flights will serve as a substantial catalyst for enhancing bilateral relations and cooperation between the two nations. He stated, “The Mongolian air carrier is preparing to operate charter flights to New Delhi and Amritsar starting later this year, which will make a substantial contribution to expanding our bilateral relations and cooperation, including tourism and business sectors.”

Ukhnaa further highlighted the mutual understanding between India and Mongolia regarding the importance of developing new avenues for connectivity. “I am pleased to underscore that both sides share similar views on the significance of exploring new transport and logistics connections and gateways to enhance our trade and economic cooperation, as well as jointly utilizing the potential of third-country ports and transport corridors,” he said. The president also pointed to the feasibility of establishing direct flights and increasing transit connections between the two countries.

Regarding the Memoranda of Understanding signed during his visit, Ukhnaa noted these initiatives are designed to empower local communities, enhance livelihoods, and promote the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises. He stated, “The Memorandum of Understanding on the Promotion of Cooperatives and the Agreement on Cooperation in Indian Grant Assistance for Implementation of Quick Impact Projects will not only support Mongolia’s regional development concept but also greatly contribute to empowering local communities and citizens’ livelihoods.”

Furthermore, Ukhnaa emphasized the strategic importance of the ongoing construction of an oil refinery, labeling it a key element of Mongolia-India cooperation vital for securing Mongolia’s economic stability. He expressed gratitude towards the Indian government and companies for their support in this initiative. “I am deeply thankful for the all-round support and collaboration for the successful implementation of this,” he added.

He restated his invitation for Modi to visit “the land of the eternal blue sky” at a time of convenience.

During the joint remarks, PM Modi expressed his delight at Ukhnaa’s visit, underscoring its significance as the first by a Mongolian president to India in six years. He highlighted the completion of 70 years of political ties and a decade of strategic partnerships, marking the occasion with the launch of a joint poster stamp.
