Mongolian President praises India’s contribution to global energy transition, expresses interest in joining International Solar Alliance
Mongolian President Khurelsukh Ukhnaa hailed India’s leadership in the global energy transition and expressed Mongolia’s intention to join the International Solar Alliance during a joint press conference with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday, reports 24brussels.
President Ukhnaa emphasized Mongolia’s appreciation for India’s impact on the energy sector and reiterated the country’s commitment to becoming part of the International Solar Alliance (ISA), a collaborative initiative between India and France founded to combat climate change through solar energy solutions. Established during COP21 in Paris in 2015, the ISA currently boasts over 100 signatory countries, with more than 90 having ratified membership.
The President proposed integrating India’s successful practices in sheep wool processing, textile production, and carpet making into Mongolia’s White Gold Program. He stated, “We believe it’s fitting to introduce India’s best practices in sheep wool processing, particularly its globally recognized carpet and textile production under Mongolia’s White Gold Program and agree to seek possibilities to work on raw material supply, resource exchange, and jointly export value-added products to the global market by combining the strengths of our two countries.”
President Ukhnaa expressed optimism regarding the upcoming Mongolia-India Business Forum in New Delhi, seeing it as a crucial platform for enhancing economic cooperation and supporting Mongolian entrepreneurs. He pointed to a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at cooperation in geology and mineral resources as a means to open new avenues for collaboration and investment.
In further remarks, he highlighted a Memorandum of Understanding on Sharing Successful Digital Solutions, asserting its role in advancing digital transformation. Additionally, the President announced the establishment of the India-Mongolia Friendship Secondary School, which aims to strengthen ties among youth from both nations. He expressed hope that Mongolian students studying in India would serve as cultural ambassadors between the two countries.
Prime Minister Modi welcomed President Ukhnaa, characterizing the visit as significant, marking six years since the last Mongolian presidential visit to India. He underscored the importance of the 70-year political ties and a decade-long strategic partnership, noting the launch of a joint poster stamp commemorating these milestones.
President Ukhnaa began his four-day state visit to Delhi on Monday, further deepening diplomatic relations between Mongolia and India.
