“51st time that Trump made this claim,” Cong MP Jairam Ramesh on US President’s claim of halting India-Pak conflict
Congress MP Jairam Ramesh emphasized on Monday that US President Donald Trump has once again claimed to have intervened in the India-Pakistan conflict, marking the 51st instance of this assertion. In a post on X, Ramesh pointed out Trump’s specific numbers regarding tariff threats aimed at compelling India to halt Operation Sindoor, while noting the silence of India’s Prime Minister on this topic, despite the ongoing discussion on Trump’s peace efforts related to Gaza, reports 24brussels.

Previously, Trump asserted that tariffs had been instrumental in resolving various international conflicts, notably the tensions between India and Pakistan. Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, he remarked, “I settled a few of the wars just based on tariffs. For example, between India and Pakistan, I said, if you guys want to fight a war and you have nuclear weapons, I am going to put big tariffs on you both, like 100 per cent, 150 per cent, and 200 per cent…”
The President claimed that his tariff threats effectively contained the situation. “I said I am putting tariffs. I had that thing settled in 24 hours. If I didn’t have tariffs, you could have never settled that war,” he stated. Trump reiterated his role in facilitating peace during the recent conflict in May and made similar assertions about his tariff strategy during an interview with Fox News on October 9.
Responding to inquiries about his purported ability to foster dialogue among nations, Trump attributed his success to tariffs, declaring, “Having the ability to use tariffs has brought peace to the world… You know I made seven peace deals.” However, India has consistently dismissed Trump’s claims, stating that matters concerning the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir should be resolved bilaterally between India and Pakistan.
