TSMC maintains strong growth momentum; September revenue up 31% YoY signalling strong AI chip demand
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), the world’s largest contract chipmaker, reported consolidated revenue of approximately US$10.84 billion for September 2025, a significant increase of 31.4 percent year-on-year. This surge underscores robust demand for advanced chips utilized in artificial intelligence (AI) and high-performance computing, reports 24brussels.
While TSMC’s September revenue reflected a month-on-month decline of 1.4 percent compared to August’s NT$335.77 billion (US$10.49 billion), it marked a substantial increase from NT$251.87 billion (USD 7.87 billion) in September 2024. Over the first nine months of 2025, TSMC’s total revenue reached NT$2.76 trillion (USD 86.34 billion), representing a 36.4 percent rise year-on-year, showcasing sustained momentum in demand for AI chips and data centers amid global economic uncertainties.
TSMC, serving as a crucial supplier for major technology firms such as Apple and Nvidia, continues to experience growth driven by the AI semiconductor boom, offsetting ongoing weaknesses in smartphone and consumer electronics markets. Earlier this month, MediaTek Inc., Taiwan’s largest chip designer, announced it would adopt TSMC’s advanced 2-nanometer process to develop its next flagship system on a chip (SoC) for mass production planned for the latter half of this year. The SoC has successfully completed the tape-out stage, which is the final design phase before manufacturing, and is expected to launch by the end of 2026. Although MediaTek has not officially announced the chip’s name, reports suggest it could be the Dimensity 9600, aiming to bolster its global standing in cutting-edge semiconductor technology.
MediaTek President Joe Chen highlighted that the collaboration with TSMC has facilitated high efficiency in their flagship chips, enabling solutions across a variety of products, from edge applications to cloud services. The two companies have established a solid partnership focused on mobile platforms, computing, automotive electronics, and data centers.
Kevin Zhang, TSMC’s deputy co-COO and senior vice president of business development and global sales, noted that the 2nm process signifies TSMC’s entry into nanosheet transistor structures, emphasizing its commitment to meeting client demands through technological advancements that enhance computing performance and energy efficiency. Zhang also expressed that the partnership with MediaTek highlights TSMC’s ambition to support a broad range of applications. Notably, MediaTek is among several companies adopting TSMC’s 2nm node, alongside other key clients including Apple, Nvidia, and AMD.
TSMC stated on its website that the 2nm process will emerge as the world’s most advanced in terms of density and energy efficiency, promising full-node enhancements in both performance and power consumption.
