UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer arrived in Mumbai on Wednesday for his first official visit to India, reports 24brussels. Upon his arrival at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, he was greeted by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, along with Maharashtra Governor Acharya Devvrat.
This visit marks a significant moment in diplomatic relations as Starmer is set to meet with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 9 in Mumbai. The two leaders will review progress on the India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership as they align on ‘Vision 2035’, a strategic roadmap designed to enhance collaboration in various sectors including trade and investment, technology, defence, climate change, health, and education.
Starmer and Modi will engage with business leaders about the India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), which underpins their economic partnership. This agreement aims to expand trade and investment ties and was signed in July 2025, reflecting the ambition of both nations to deepen their economic relations. The bilateral trade currently stands at USD 56 billion, with a collective goal to double this figure by 2030.
Additionally, both Prime Ministers will participate in the 6th edition of the Global Fintech Fest in Mumbai, delivering keynote addresses and interacting with industry experts and innovators. This visit builds on the momentum from Modi’s recent trip to the UK, further solidifying the partnership between India and the United Kingdom.
