US Ambassador-designate to India, Sergio Gor, emphasized the importance of the relationship between the United States and India, expressing optimism about future cooperation. During his initial meetings upon arrival, Gor engaged with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, discussing various topics, including critical minerals. ”We hit the ground running,” Gor remarked, highlighting discussions on defense, trade, technology, and the significance of critical minerals for both nations.

Gor expressed his eagerness to deepen bilateral relations, stating, “It’s an honor to serve as President Trump’s ambassador to India, and I look forward to growing and deepening the relationship between our two nations.” Earlier, the US Embassy in India officially welcomed the new ambassador, who aims to strengthen ties between the two countries.

On the same day, the US Embassy tweeted about Gor’s arrival, indicating optimism for further discussions with Indian leaders to enhance the strategic partnership and promote a prosperous relationship between the two nations. Gor’s first engagement was with Minister Jaishankar, where they discussed the evolving India-US relationship and its significance on the global stage.

Following his meeting with Jaishankar, Gor also met Foreign Secretary Misri, where they had a productive exchange regarding the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership. Misri expressed his wishes for Gor’s success in his new role.

During his confirmation hearing in September, Gor underscored the “deep friendship” between Trump and Modi, describing it as pivotal for advancing bilateral ties. He asserted, “India is a strategic partner whose trajectory will shape the region and beyond,” and committed to prioritizing defense and security cooperation with India if confirmed.
