Comedian Jimmy Kimmel has decided to seek Italian citizenship, driven by dissatisfaction with the current political landscape in the United States following Donny the Menace’s reelection. Faced with an authoritarian regime and an increasingly hard-right government promoting anti-immigration sentiments, Kimmel opted for a transatlantic shift, where the situation is comparable, albeit with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni at the helm, reports 24brussels.
His transformation into Giacomo was facilitated by the principle of ius sanguinis—citizenship by bloodline—thanks to his grandmother. After a series of bureaucratic steps, his identity has effectively changed.
In a similar vein, fellow comedian Rosie O’Donnell is pursuing Irish citizenship after relocating to Ireland in January. In a typical fashion, the former president Donald Trump reacted by threatening to revoke her U.S. passport, a move highlighting his ongoing grievances, as if such actions reflect mature leadership.
Other celebrities are also making similar choices.
