Kirchner Celebrates Victory in Buenos Aires Legislative Elections
Former Argentine President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner hailed the victory of her party, Fuerza Patria, which garnered 47% of the votes, defeating President Javier Milei’s La Libertad Avanza (LLA) in the Buenos Aires provincial legislative elections held on September 7, 2025, reports 24brussels.
Speaking from her residence where she is serving a six-year house arrest sentence, a consequence of ongoing political persecution, Fernández stated, “With great democratic responsibility, they decided to put a limit on a president who does not seem to understand that he must govern for everyone.”
She urged Milei to recognize the significance of the public’s decision, emphasizing, “I sincerely hope that this popular pronouncement allows him to understand that one cannot exercise the presidency in the way he does.” Fernández underscored that the president must heed the opinions of the province’s residents, who constitute nearly 40% of the national electorate.
In her critique of Milei’s campaign tactics, she asserted, “Trivializing and vandalizing the ‘Never Again,’ which represents the darkest and most tragic period in Argentinian history, is not free of consequences. Laughing at the death and pain of your opponents is not either.”
In these elections, Peronism not only triumphed over Milei’s LLA but also outperformed the Propuesta Republicana (Pro) party, led by former President Mauricio Macri, which had previously aligned itself with LLA.
This significant electoral outcome underscores the ongoing political rivalry in Argentina, highlighting the challenges facing Milei’s administration as it grapples with public dissatisfaction and demands for responsive governance.
