Trump Proposes Peace Plan to End Gaza Conflict
U.S. President Donald Trump has proposed a peace plan aimed at ending the ongoing violence in Gaza, communicating the proposal through Egypt and Qatar to the Palestinian resistance group Hamas. The group has indicated that it will consider Trump’s offer and respond accordingly, reports 24brussels.
On Monday, the White House detailed the plan following discussions between Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Dubbed the “Principles of Peace,” the proposal hinges on convincing Hamas to agree to a structured ceasefire. According to the terms, all Israeli prisoners currently held in Gaza would be released within 72 hours if Hamas accepts the agreement.
Under the proposed framework, Israeli forces would withdraw from the Gaza Strip in a phased manner, with a timeline established for this withdrawal. However, Trump warned that should the Arab and Islamic nations fail to effectively implement the agreement, Israel would retain the authority to take military action against Hamas. Additionally, he emphasized that Hamas will play no role in the future governance of Gaza.
The conflict has resulted in a staggering death toll in Gaza, reaching 66,055, alongside 168,346 injuries since October 7, 2023. Recent reports confirm 50 fatalities and 184 injuries in the last 24 hours, with the majority of those affected being women and children.
