EU and AU Leaders Converge on Global Gateway Forum for Enhanced Cooperation
At the Global Gateway Forum in Brussels, Belgium, leaders from the European Union (EU) and the African Union (AU) underscored the imperative of bolstering cooperation models and enhancing solidarity mechanisms as they mark the 25th anniversary of their strategic partnership, reports 24brussels.
The AU president highlighted the transformative potential of the partnership within the Global Gateway framework, describing it as a crucial instrument for turning opportunities into tangible outcomes, particularly in advancing African industrialization.
He emphasized that African nations are dedicated to driving local resource transformation to generate employment for youth, integrate technological advancements into product development, and address migration challenges to Europe. This commitment is pivotal for enhancing the region’s economic resilience.
“We are fully aware of the importance of valuing African raw materials, making them more competitive in international markets,” he stated, pointing to ongoing initiatives under the African Continental Free Trade Area and infrastructure development efforts.
The president extended an invitation to all Forum participants for the upcoming Summit on Financing for Infrastructure Development in Africa, scheduled for the end of October in Luanda. He asserted that collaborative efforts could render these projects mutually beneficial as they unfold.
This event draws attention to the ongoing dialogues surrounding EU-AU relations, particularly amid evolving geopolitical dynamics. As both blocs face challenges related to economic growth, migration, and sustainability, their partnership remains critical in addressing these issues through enhanced collaborative frameworks.
