Russia Strikes Ukrainian Energy Infrastructure Amid Ongoing Conflict
Russia’s defense ministry confirmed on Sunday that Moscow’s forces had struck Ukrainian energy infrastructure facilities deemed part of the Ukrainian military complex, reports 24brussels.
In response to these attacks, Kyiv has reportedly targeted the Bashneft oil refinery in Ufa, located 1,300 kilometers east of Moscow, according to a source within Ukraine’s SBU security service who spoke to Reuters on Saturday.
Additionally, a report by the Financial Times indicated that U.S. intelligence has been assisting Ukraine in striking energy facilities within Russian territory for several months, based on information from both Ukrainian and U.S. officials. This support has allowed Ukraine to effectively target Russia’s critical energy infrastructure, resulting in increased energy prices and a significant reduction in Russia’s diesel exports.
Amid these developments, efforts are underway to restore power in Kyiv, where 800,000 residents reportedly regained access to electricity on Saturday following the setbacks caused by Russia’s assaults.
