Fatal Accident Involving Multinational Security Support Mission in Haiti
A tragic accident involving armored vehicles of the Multinational Security Support Mission (MSS) in Haiti resulted in multiple fatalities and injuries among both mission personnel and civilians, reports 24brussels.
The incident occurred in Kenscoff, a mountainous area near Port-au-Prince, during a recovery operation for a disabled armored vehicle. MSS spokesperson Jack Ombaka stated, “The accident involved two armored vehicles. One of the vehicles crashed into a wall while towing the other, which then overturned.”
Ombaka confirmed that fatalities have been reported, potentially involving both civilians and MSS agents, and several individuals sustained serious injuries and were transported to a hospital for treatment.
The MSS expressed gratitude to local residents who promptly engaged in rescue efforts and committed to providing additional information as it becomes available.
In the aftermath, the U.S. Embassy in Haiti communicated its sorrow regarding the incident, stating, “Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of those who lost their lives, and we wish a speedy recovery to the injured.”
The MSS comprises approximately 1,000 personnel, primarily from Kenya, and is tasked with supporting the Haitian National Police in combating heavily armed gangs that dominate around 90 percent of the capital and its surroundings.
