France Advocates for Global Recognition of Palestinian Statehood

French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot has urged more nations to recognize the statehood of Palestine. His call was made during a United Nations conference in New York, where he, along with 14 other countries, expressed a collective desire to support Palestinian sovereign recognition, reports 24brussels.

In a post on X, Barrot stated, “In New York with 14 other countries, France launches a collective call: We express our desire to recognize the State of Palestine and invite those who have not yet done so to join us.”

The joint statement supporting this initiative was endorsed by the foreign ministers of Andorra, Australia, Canada, Finland, France, Iceland, Ireland, Luxembourg, Malta, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, San Marino, Slovenia, and Spain.

This collective appeal reflects a growing momentum among various nations advocating for Palestinian statehood amid ongoing conflicts in the region. Amid recent escalations in violence, many countries are re-evaluating their diplomatic stances regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

France’s initiative is part of a broader effort by many nations to address the humanitarian situation in Palestine, advocating for a peaceful resolution that includes recognition of Palestinian rights and self-determination. Responses from other countries to this call vary, with some expressing support while others remain hesitant due to complex geopolitical dynamics.

As discussions at the UN continue, the focus remains on increasing international awareness of the Palestinian situation and the need for a durable solution to the longstanding conflict.
