International Calls for Iran to Uphold IAEA Cooperation
France, Germany, and the United Kingdom are demanding that Iranian authorities halt their cessation of cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and ensure the safety of the agency’s personnel, reports 24brussels.
The trio of nations condemned recent threats against IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi. Iran’s hard-line newspaper, Kayhan, accused Grossi of being an Israeli spy and called for his execution. In response, Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations stated on Sunday that Tehran does not pose a threat to Grossi.
These developments follow Israeli strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, which prompted a retaliatory response from Tehran. European leaders sought to mediate a peace agreement to avoid further escalation, but their diplomatic efforts were disregarded by the Trump administration, which instead participated in military operations against Iran.
Although Israel and Iran have reached a ceasefire, discussions regarding Iran’s nuclear program are yet to commence. Grossi cautioned over the weekend that Iran could resume uranium enrichment within “a matter of months.”
