Four Journalists Killed in Gaza Hospital Attack Amid Escalating Violence
Four journalists from major international news organizations were killed in an attack on Gaza’s Nasser Hospital on Monday, marking a tragic escalation in the ongoing conflict that has claimed the lives of a total of 244 journalists since the Israeli offensive began in October 2023, reports 24brussels.
The deceased include Hossam Al Masri, a cameraman for Reuters; Mohamed Salama, from Al Jazeera; Mariam Abu Daqqa, a reporter for the Associated Press; and Moaz Abu Taha, a reporter for NBC. Additionally, Hatem Khaled, a photographer, sustained injuries during the incident.
The ongoing violence in Gaza has created an environment where journalists face unprecedented danger. According to the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), the conflict has emerged as one of the most lethal for reporting professionals in decades.
Prior to Monday’s attack, six journalists had already lost their lives, including Anas al Sharif, the intended target of an Israeli operation, and Mohammed Qreiqeh. The deceased also comprised cameramen Ibrahim Zaher, Mohammed Noufal, and Moamen Aliwa from Al Jazeera, along with Mohammed Khalidi from the Palestinian digital platform Sahat.
Despite the risks, Gazan journalists are currently the only ones able to report on the ground within Gaza, as Israel has restricted access for international media outlets. This blockade restricts the flow of information amid a humanitarian crisis exacerbated by the ongoing military actions.
