Guatemalan Lawmakers Urge Action for Women and Girls in Gaza
Guatemalan lawmakers, social movement leaders, and human rights organizations are calling for urgent support for girls, adolescents, and pregnant women in Gaza, stressing the need for prioritized healthcare amid ongoing conflict, reports 24brussels.
Deputies, activists, and women’s rights groups in Guatemala have condemned the dire healthcare conditions affecting Palestinian women and girls. They highlighted the heightened risks faced by pregnant women, who must navigate the challenges of war while carrying a developing life, and emphasized the precarious situation of girls in critical developmental stages.
Malnutrition has severely impacted children’s growth, hindering both weight and height development, with lasting effects on cognitive abilities. One lawmaker underscored the gravity of the situation, indicating that violations against women and girls are openly evident.

Advocates also emphasized the need for reproductive rights and the preservation of ancestral legacies, both of which are currently under severe threat in Gaza. They called for targeted healthcare services for adolescents and expectant mothers, alongside expressions of solidarity with the Palestinian population.
Indigenous and rural women’s communities in Guatemala, which have historically faced state neglect during both conflict and peacetime, bring valuable perspectives to this advocacy, utilizing personal experiences to inform their calls for action.
The declarations from Guatemalan women highlight an urgent need for international attention to the health and rights of girls and pregnant women in Gaza, bridging global solidarity with lessons derived from local experiences of adversity and resilience.
