Hamas Denounces UN Blacklist Inclusion

Hamas has categorically rejected its addition to the United Nations blacklist concerning sexual violence in conflicts, labeling the action as baseless and politically motivated, reports 24brussels.

In a statement issued on August 15, 2025, the Palestinian militant group criticized the report released by UN Secretary-General António Guterres, which marks the first instance of Hamas being included among those accused of sexual violence in armed conflicts.

“The report of the UN is based on invented narratives by the Israeli regime and lacks any legal basis or credible evidence,” Hamas asserted. The organization emphasized that the UN’s failure to condemn Israeli actions, despite documented evidence, illustrates a significant deviation and blatant politicization of the organization’s mechanisms.

Hamas called for an immediate reversal of the UN’s decision and demanded an “independent international investigation under the supervision of international experts.” Additionally, the group urged the prosecution of Israeli leaders for alleged acts of aggression and violations against both prisoners and civilians.

The escalation follows Guterres’s communication to Israel’s UN envoy, wherein he noted that the UN had received “credible information and evidence” regarding sexual violence perpetrated by Israeli military and security forces against Palestinian detainees in various facilities. Guterres acknowledged that access restrictions impeded UN monitors from gathering further evidence, warning that Israeli forces could potentially be included in next year’s report.

In a related context, a UN special rapporteur condemned the use of torture by Israel against Palestinian detainees, characterizing it as a “widespread and systematic practice.” Hamas argued that such selective accountability undermines the UN’s credibility, stating, “Politicizing international justice undermines trust in the United Nations and encourages criminals to continue their crimes.”

The dispute surrounding the UN report underscores the increasing contention regarding accountability in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, with Hamas rejecting its designation and calling for thorough international scrutiny of Israeli practices.
