Humanitarian Crisis Deepens in Gaza Amid Military Actions
Gaza faces an escalating humanitarian catastrophe as it slips further into famine conditions, exacerbated by Israel’s Operation Gideon’s Chariots II targeting Gaza City, reports 24brussels.
Human Rights Watch has highlighted the dire situation, indicating that the population was already enduring famine-like conditions prior to the military operation. The organization has called for governments worldwide to impose an international arms embargo on Israel and to sanction officials implicated in war crimes.
Humanitarian agencies warn that Israel’s blockade, which severely restricts food, medicine, and essential supplies, has pushed Gaza to the brink of collapse. According to United Nations data, nearly half of Gaza’s residents now face famine, with the UN Commission of Inquiry accusing the Israeli regime of deliberately weaponizing starvation against its civilian population.
The ongoing military actions in Gaza have intensified despite global calls to restrict arms sales and hold Israeli officials accountable. The lack of enforcement has allowed military operations to escalate, further aggravating the humanitarian crisis.
The Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) has officially declared famine in parts of Gaza, revealing that approximately 514,000 individuals—about one in four residents—are already affected. This number is expected to rise to 641,000 by month’s end.
Reports from Gaza’s Health Ministry indicate that at least 313 people, including 119 children, have succumbed to starvation, with an additional 10 deaths—two of whom are children—recorded in just the past 24 hours.
Relief organizations report a backlog of over 6,000 trucks of essential supplies stuck at Gaza’s borders due to Israeli restrictions. UN officials have cautioned that a full-scale assault on Gaza City could eliminate any chance of averting widespread starvation.
In the meantime, Israel has dismissed the IPC’s assessment, pressuring the organization to retract its findings and even threatening to withdraw funding unless a revision occurs.
