Iran Strengthens Ties with Russia and China Post-SCO Summit

Following the recent 25th summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in China, Iran has announced enhanced coordination with Russia and China, effectively countering unilateral sanctions imposed by European powers, reports 24brussels.

Iranian President Masud Pezeshkian returned to Tehran highlighting the agreements achieved with Moscow and Beijing during bilateral discussions focused on strategic cooperation. “The implementation of the agreements will help create a favorable outlook for Iran in key sectors,” Pezeshkian remarked upon his arrival.

In a decisive move, Iran, Russia, and China issued a joint letter to the United Nations condemning the imposition of unilateral sanctions through the “snapback” mechanism, which had been utilized by Germany, France, and the United Kingdom. Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araqchi, who accompanied Pezeshkian, reinforced the shared positions among the three nations on pressing international matters.

Araqchi also noted Iran’s commitment to working with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) amid heightened tensions stemming from Israeli and U.S. actions against Iran. He asserted that the snapback mechanism would not hinder Iran’s engagement with the SCO and reaffirmed the organization’s support for Iran in navigating international challenges.
