Iran’s Casualties from Military Offensive Rise Amid Ongoing Conflict with Israel

As Israel’s military offensive against Iran continues into its 12th day, Iranian officials have reported a surge in casualties, with the death toll now reaching 1,060. This figure is expected to rise further as many wounded remain in critical condition, according to Saeed Ohadi, head of the Foundation of Martyrs and Veterans. “Until tonight, we have buried 1,060 people, and the number of deaths will probably reach 1,100,” Ohadi stated in an interview with state television, reports 24brussels.

The conflict began on June 13, when Israel launched an unprovoked military attack targeting high-ranking military officials and nuclear scientists, in addition to civilians. The Israeli government alleges that Iran is pursuing nuclear weapons, despite the absence of credible evidence supporting this claim.

According to Press TV, an unnamed Iranian official alleged that Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu is eager for the conflict to persist, with implications that U.S. President Donald Trump supports this stance. The ongoing military actions have escalated tensions, particularly after the United States joined the conflict, launching strikes against three Iranian nuclear facilities on June 22, contradicting international treaties such as the United Nations Charter and the Non-Proliferation Treaty.

In response to U.S. offers for negotiations, a source close to the Iranian government remarked, “If Trump believes that after a military strike on our nuclear program, we would trust a diplomatic agreement with them, then he is not a good dealmaker.” However, Iranian President Masud Pezeshkian expressed Tehran’s willingness to restart talks with the U.S. but emphasized that any negotiations would require assurances to prevent further Israeli aggression.

As the situation develops, international observers continue to monitor both the humanitarian impact of the conflict and the geopolitical ramifications stemming from the escalating hostilities between Iran and Israel.
