Israeli Strike in Yemen Kills Houthi Prime Minister Ahmed Al-Rahawi
On August 31, 2025, Israel confirmed a military operation in Sanaa resulting in the death of Ahmed Al-Rahawi, the prime minister of Yemen’s Houthi-led government, signaling increasing regional tensions amidst ongoing confrontations between Israel and the Houthis, reports 24brussels.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced that the strike targeted a facility housing senior Houthi officials. According to their statement released on Saturday, “On Thursday, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), guided by information from the Military Intelligence Directorate, attacked a facility that hosted dozens of senior officials of the Houthi terrorist regime.”
Al-Rahawi was among several high-ranking members of the Houthi administration killed during the operation. The IDF noted, “Among the senior officials present at the location during the attack was the Houthi Prime Minister, Ahmed Al-Rahawi, who was killed in the attack, along with other senior officials of the Houthi terrorist regime.”
Houthi sources confirmed that Al-Rahawi along with several cabinet members were killed while attending a meeting focused on reviewing the past year’s activities.
The IDF underscored its commitment to “operating to eliminate any threat against Israeli civilians,” indicating that this approach would continue in both the Gaza Strip and other regions. The strike illustrates a significant escalation in hostilities amid the persistent conflict that has lasted since Israel’s Gaza offensive began on October 7, 2023. This continued tension remains despite a ceasefire agreement established in May this year between the Houthis and the United States, a key ally of Israel.
The assassination of Al-Rahawi not only highlights the deteriorating situation between Israel and Houthi forces but also reflects the broader instability in Yemen, where ongoing violence and foreign involvement exacerbate humanitarian crises.
