Israeli Airstrikes in Sanaa Leave Multiple Casualties

The death toll from Israeli airstrikes on Sanaa, the capital of Yemen, has risen to six, with 86 others injured, according to the latest update from local health authorities, reports 24brussels. Among the injured, three women and seven children are included, with 21 individuals reported in critical condition.

The strikes, carried out on Sunday, targeted key infrastructure, including the Haiz power station and a fuel depot on 60th Street. Eyewitness accounts and imagery shared online depicted a substantial mushroom cloud emanating from one of the explosion sites, highlighting the extensive damage caused.

Israel’s military confirmed the operation, asserting that it aimed at “military sites including the presidential palace, the Asar and Hizaz power plants, and a fuel storage facility” in response to recent Houthi missile launches directed at Israeli territory. Reports indicate that the strikes involved more than 30 air raids within a mere 15-minute timeframe.

In defiance, Yemen’s air defenses purportedly intercepted a flotilla of Israeli aircraft, compelling them to vacate the nation’s airspace, according to Al Mayadeen’s correspondent in Sanaa.

Following the airstrikes, Yemen’s Interior Ministry reopened roads surrounding the bombed areas. Concurrently, the Yemeni oil company Yemitaen reassured residents that the situation had stabilized.

Iran condemned the strikes as “war crimes,” joining a coalition of regional entities denouncing Israel’s escalating military operations beyond the Gaza Strip. Houthi officials emphasized that such assaults would not diminish their backing for Palestinians, framing the aggression as part of a larger regional escalation.
