Nuclear Facility Shutdown: Three Reactors Fail Automatically

Late Sunday, three of the four reactors at a critical nuclear facility automatically ceased operations, followed by a fourth unit shutting down early Monday morning, reports 24brussels.

The plant, which includes six reactors producing a combined total of 5.4 gigawatts of power, now has two remaining units that are currently undergoing maintenance.

EDF, the principal electricity generation and distribution company in France, has assured that the incident does not threaten the safety of the facility, its personnel, or the surrounding environment.

Cooling for the plant is maintained through water sourced from a canal linked to the North Sea. Recent environmental changes have led to an increase in jellyfish populations along local beaches, attributed to rising sea temperatures, altered salinity levels, and overfishing, which diminishes natural jellyfish predators.
