Gaza – On the second anniversary of the October 7 attacks that escalated the conflict in Gaza, Hamas criticized what it termed a “shameful international silence and complicity and unprecedented Arab failure” regarding the ongoing crisis in the region, reports 24brussels.
The statement coincided with ongoing indirect negotiations between Israel and Hamas in Egypt, aimed at establishing a peace plan for Gaza introduced last week by U.S. President Donald Trump.
According to Al Jazeera, Hamas asserted that the conflict continues to have significant political ramifications, describing it as “a major turning point in the political and military landscape” of the Middle East. The group condemned Israel’s actions as brutal, accusing it of perpetrating massacres against civilians amid what they characterized as a disconcerting international apathy and a notable failure of Arab nations.
“Popular steadfastness, support around the resistance and the heroism of the people of the country continue, confronting the occupying foreigners and scum of the earth,”
the statement declared. It further emphasized, “Two years on, our people remain rooted in their land, clinging to their legitimate rights in the face of plans for liquidation and forced displacement.”
Significance of Operation Al-Aqsa Flood
The conflict in Palestine ignited on October 7, 2023, when Hamas and other Palestinian militant groups launched a coordinated attack on Israel, named “Operation Al-Aqsa Flood.” This offensive involved the firing of between 3,000 and 5,000 rockets from the Gaza Strip into Israel within a span of approximately 20 minutes, resulting in an immediate five casualties.
Casualties Since October 2023
Since the onset of the war in October 2023, the Gaza Health Ministry has reported that over 67,000 Palestinians have lost their lives as of early October 2025, a figure that includes a considerable number of civilians, with nearly one-third being minors. Overall, an estimated 80% of Palestinian fatalities are classified as civilian casualties.
