Gunman Kills Four in Manhattan Office Shooting

On July 28, 2025, a gunman in Manhattan, New York City, opened fire in an office building, resulting in four fatalities and six injuries before taking his own life. The shooter, identified as 27-year-old Shane Tamura, died from a self-inflicted injury shortly after the incident.

The attack occurred around 6 p.m. at 345 Park Avenue, during a busy time for the office lobby. Tamura initially targeted a New York Police Department officer and then proceeded to call an elevator, prompting an unidentified woman to exit the building unharmed. He continued to the 33rd floor, associated with Rudin Management, where he discharged rounds while moving through the area. According to reports, Tamura shot himself in the chest, ending the violent episode, as confirmed by Mayor Eric Adams.

Authorities revealed that the shooter had traveled from Las Vegas, with a vehicle registered to him discovered at the scene. While the exact motives for Tamura’s actions remain unclear, he reportedly had a history of mental health issues. Police are actively investigating the reasons behind the specific targeting of the office building.

Among the victims was Didarul Islam, a 36-year-old off-duty NYPD officer. Islam, an immigrant from Bangladesh, was a father and was remembered by Mayor Adams, who expressed condolences to his family. Islam leaves behind a pregnant wife and two young sons, highlighting the tragic personal losses resulting from the attack.

New York Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch confirmed on X that the situation had been contained and that the lone shooter was neutralized. As investigations continue, the community is once again reminded of the challenges posed by gun violence in urban settings, prompting calls for further dialogue on public safety measures and mental health support.

The incident adds to the ongoing discourse regarding gun violence and its impact on society, raising questions about preventive measures in urban areas throughout the United States, reports 24brussels.
