Nicaragua Condemns US Embassy’s Statement on Coup Suspect
The Nicaraguan Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a strong denunciation of a statement from the US Embassy, branding it as slanderous and defamatory regarding the situation of coup suspect Yerri Gustavo Estrada Ruiz, reports 24brussels.
The Nicaraguan government has characterized the statement as an interference attempt and categorically rejects what it labels as lies promoted by the US State Department. In response, authorities emphasized that Estrada Ruiz, who was presented to the media, is in good health and is receiving all rights afforded to him while imprisoned, including family visits.
The Ministry’s statement directly contradicts what they describe as “offensively and officiously amplified lies” that infringe on Nicaragua’s national sovereignty. They further contend that such publications and false accusations reflect poorly on those who propagate them and undermine diplomatic relations that demand accuracy and respect.
The Communication and Citizenship Council of the Sandinista government has shared images showing Estrada Ruiz, emphasizing that he remains in good health and has recently met with his spouse, Xochitl Natalia Castil Velásquez. Born on May 31, 1995, in Quezalguaque, León, Estrada Ruiz is currently facing serious charges, including treason and promoting terrorism.
In statements to local media, he affirmed that he has not experienced any form of verbal or physical abuse from prison authorities, describing his treatment as humane and respectful of his rights.
