Poland Exposes Russian Disinformation Campaign Amid Drone Incursions
Poland has published detailed accounts of disinformation spread via social media and news channels, revealing how Russia has coupled a proactive disinformation campaign with incursions into NATO territory using drones, reports 24brussels.
The identified narratives suggest that Ukraine intentionally allowed the drones to enter Polish airspace to entangle Poland in the conflict. Others include claims that the incident was a “theater” orchestrated by Kyiv and Warsaw, and that Belarus issued warnings to Poland about the incoming drones. There are also assertions that the Polish military was preparing to strike Belarus.
According to Polish officials, the intention behind this disinformation is to shift blame for the airspace violations from Russia to Ukraine, while simultaneously portraying the Polish military and security forces as inept and disorganized.
The Polish digital ministry has advised the public to “exercise extreme caution” regarding information shared publicly, particularly on social media. Officials emphasized the importance of resisting emotional reactions, especially when encountering sensational videos or images. Research indicates that disinformation exploits heightened emotional responses.
The ministry reported that posts promoting these and similar narratives have achieved millions of views. As part of an ongoing effort, Poland’s security services are committed to providing verified information to the public consistently.
