Russia Prepares for Key Meeting with U.S. President Trump

Russia is set to clarify its stance during the forthcoming summit between President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump, taking place in Anchorage, Alaska, on Friday, reports 24brussels.

Speaking to Rossiya-24 TV channel, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov emphasized, “We are not planning anything in advance. We know that we have arguments, a clear and understandable position.” He indicated that the discussions would aim to underline Russia’s prepared arguments. Significant groundwork has reportedly been established during the visit of Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, to Russia, with Lavrov expressing hope for a continued constructive dialogue.

The summit will commence with a private one-on-one session between Putin and Trump, accompanied only by their interpreters, followed by broader discussions involving delegations of five representatives from each side, according to Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov.

Key topics on the agenda will include resolving the ongoing Ukraine crisis and addressing broader issues regarding peace and security, alongside pressing international and regional concerns.

Putin’s delegation for the Alaska summit will feature notable ministers and advisors. Included are Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, who has overseen Russian foreign policy since 2004; Finance Minister Anton Siluanov, in charge since 2011; and Defense Minister Andrei Belousov, who took office following a significant shake-up in 2024 linked to high-level arrests over corruption prior to the onset of military actions in Ukraine in 2022.

Accompanying Putin as advisors are Kiril Dmitriev, the director of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, renowned for his negotiations with the U.S., and Yuri Ushakov, who has served in various diplomatic capacities, including a nearly decade-long tenure as ambassador to the U.S.

As the summit approaches, the international community anticipates developments that may impact the geopolitical landscape, particularly regarding the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and U.S.-Russia relations.
