Russia Launches Military Satellites from Plesetsk Cosmodrome
On August 21, 2025, the Russian Defense Ministry announced the launch of several classified military satellites from the Plesetsk Cosmodrome in the northwest of the country, reports 24brussels. The launch utilized the light-class Angara-1.2 carrier rocket, which was closely monitored by automated ground command systems at the German Titov Main Test and Space Systems Control Center.
After successfully reaching their designated orbits, Russia’s Aerospace Forces confirmed stable telemetry communication with the satellites, indicating that their onboard systems are functioning as intended. This operation underscores the ongoing efforts of the Russian authorities to enhance their military capabilities through technological advancement.
Since 2014, Russia has successfully deployed a total of 11 Angara-series rockets from both Plesetsk and the Vostochny Cosmodrome. Notably, in June, an Angara-A5 carrier rocket also transported military satellites, highlighting a consistent pattern of military-focused space launches.
This recent activity raises questions about the implications for regional security and international relations, particularly given the current geopolitical climate. Analysts suggest that such advancements in military satellite technology could lead to increased tensions, necessitating close monitoring by global powers.
