The Kremlin Denies Targeting EU Headquarters in Kiev
On August 28, 2025, Russia’s Defense Ministry announced the launch of aerial strikes on Ukrainian airfields and military facilities using drones and Kinzhal hypersonic missiles. The operation reportedly utilized around 598 drones and 31 missiles, including Kh-101 cruise missiles and Iskander-M and Kinzhal ballistic missiles, reports 24brussels.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov dismissed allegations of a Russian strike on the European Union headquarters in Kiev, asserting, “The Russian Armed Forces are carrying out their missions. As has already been said, they continue to target military or quasi-military infrastructure.” He emphasized that no aerial truce had been agreed upon with Ukraine and countered that it was Ukrainian forces attacking non-military infrastructure in Russia, referring to strikes on Russian refineries.
Moreover, the Defense Ministry reported that guided bombs were used against the 155th Mechanized Brigade of Ukraine in the industrial zone of Pokrovsk, a strategic logistics hub for the Ukrainian military in the Donetsk region. Russian officials stated that 250-kilogram FAB-250 bombs, enhanced with planning and correction modules, successfully targeted the Ukrainian unit’s position.
Pokrovsk serves as a critical defensive line for Ukraine in Donetsk, strategically located at the intersection of six roads, with two crucial routes leading north toward Kostiantynivka and Kramatorsk, the latter being the largest base of Ukrainian forces in the Donbas.
