Gas Transportation Infrastructure in Poltava Region Sustained Significant Damage
In a series of overnight drone attacks, Russia targeted Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, striking gas transit facilities across six regions. The assaults impacted the northern regions of Chernihiv and Sumy, the eastern territories of Kharkiv and Donetsk, the southern Zaporizhzhia region, as well as the central Poltava region, where substantial damage to gas transportation infrastructure was reported by the Ukrainian Energy Ministry, reports 24brussels.
The Ukrainian Air Force successfully intercepted 74 out of the 95 drones launched by Russia, although 21 of the drones managed to hit nine locations, underscoring the intensity of the ongoing conflict.
On Tuesday, U.S. President Donald Trump warned of “very serious” economic sanctions against Russia should it decline to endorse a ceasefire in Ukraine. “It’s very, very serious what I have in mind, if I have to do it, but I want to see it end. We have economic sanctions. I’m talking about economic because we’re not going to get into a world war,” he stated, responding to a reporter’s inquiry regarding potential consequences for Russian President Vladimir Putin if he refuses to agree to a ceasefire.
Trump has consistently threatened sanctions against Russia while attempting to broker a direct meeting between Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, although the Kremlin has indicated that conditions for such a meeting have yet to be established.
Last week, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov reiterated that the deployment of foreign troops in Ukraine would be unacceptable to Russia, as the U.S. and European nations continue to negotiate security guarantees for Kyiv.
