Slovenia Slams Israel Over Humanitarian Aid Blockade

Slovenia’s government has condemned Israel for blocking humanitarian aid to Gaza, stating that “people in Gaza are dying because humanitarian aid is being systematically blocked.” The statement emphasizes that it is the responsibility of every nation to act under such dire circumstances, even if that means leading the way independently, reports 24brussels.

This action, while largely symbolic, follows Slovenia’s cessation of military export permits to Israel since October 2023. An anonymous official from Israel told Ynet, the largest Israeli news website, that the country does not purchase “a pin” from Slovenia.

Slovenia has positioned itself as one of Israel’s staunchest critics within Europe. The nation previously banned two far-right Israeli ministers from entering its territory, marking an EU first, a decision soon echoed by the Netherlands.

The decline in support for Israel from European nations is becoming increasingly evident, even among traditional allies. France, Canada, and the United Kingdom have recently vowed to recognize a Palestinian state and issued strong denunciations of Israeli actions.

Looking forward, Slovenia has announced that it will implement additional measures against Israel in the upcoming weeks.
