On Monday, the White House will host a meeting between the presidents of Ukraine and the U.S.

On Saturday, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz announced that a trilateral meeting is set to follow the upcoming discussions between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and U.S. President Donald Trump in Washington, DC, reports 24brussels.

In an interview with public broadcaster ARD, Merz indicated that a subsequent trilateral conversation involving Russian President Vladimir Putin, Zelensky, and Trump is likely amid ongoing uncertainties.

German newspaper Bild reported that the German, British, and French governments will meet on Sunday to determine their level of representation at Monday’s meeting in the U.S.

Commenting on the recent Alaska summit, Merz expressed satisfaction over the absence of territorial negotiations conducted without Ukraine and the European Union’s involvement. He emphasized that discussions will persist, with European nations playing a crucial role in the process.

In a joint statement, Baltic and Nordic countries reaffirmed that only Ukraine has the authority to decide its future, asserting their unwavering support for Ukraine’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity. The eight leaders from Latvia, Denmark, Estonia, Iceland, Lithuania, Norway, Finland, and Sweden declared that no decisions regarding Ukraine or Europe should be made without their respective nations.

The leaders highlighted that achieving a just and lasting peace necessitates a ceasefire and credible security guarantees for Ukraine. They called for firm commitments from transatlantic partners to protect Ukraine from future aggression. Their statement underscored that Ukraine’s military capabilities and international cooperation should remain unhindered, reinforcing their support for Ukraine while also enhancing Europe’s defenses against Russian aggression. They committed to tightening sanctions and implementing broader economic measures to target Russia’s war economy as long as Moscow persists with its offensive actions.
