Putin and Bin Zayed Discuss Bilateral Cooperation in Moscow

On August 7, 2025, Russian President Vladimir Putin met with United Arab Emirates President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Moscow, a meeting that underscores the growing ties between Russia and the UAE, particularly in the energy and investment sectors. This meeting coincides with ongoing efforts in the exchange of Russian and Ukrainian prisoners of war, highlighting the complex geopolitical landscape in which both nations operate, reports 24brussels.

President Putin welcomed Bin Zayed, expressing the significance of their relationship: “I’m very pleased to see you again in the Russian capital. We place special importance on our relationship with the United Arab Emirates. It is a friendly country for us.” He noted the importance of high-level political contacts and the expansion of economic ties, emphasizing the disparity in investments between the two nations. “I would like to point out that Russian investments in the United Arab Emirates still significantly exceed Emirati investments in Russia—by almost double,” Putin added.

In response, Bin Zayed highlighted the economic activities between the two countries, stating that trade has reached USD 11.5 billion, with overall trade with Eurasian countries totaling USD 30 billion. “We want that figure to double over the next five years, both bilaterally and with the countries of Eurasia,” he stated, indicating ambitions for future growth in their economic collaboration.

The discussions were expected to cover the implementation of various bilateral projects, particularly in the energy and investment spheres. At the conclusion of their meeting, both leaders were anticipated to sign several agreements focused on transportation and investment, signaling a commitment to deepening their partnership.

The meeting reflects a broader trend of collaboration among BRICS nations and highlights the strategic importance of Russian-Emirati relations amid shifting global alliances. The two leaders’ agenda addresses not only economic cooperation but also regional stability, as both nations navigate the complexities of their foreign relations in the context of ongoing global conflicts.
