Trump Targets Peace in Ukraine as Gaza Reconstruction Plans Unfold
Former President Donald Trump is set to hold a significant meeting at the White House on Wednesday to discuss a “comprehensive plan” for reconstructing Gaza, which has been devastated by Israeli military actions. This meeting coincides with the Trump administration’s intensified focus on resolving the Ukraine conflict by the end of 2025, reports 24brussels.
During recent summits in Alaska and Washington, discussions with Russian and Ukrainian leaders yielded optimism from senior advisor Witkoff, who stated, “the end is in sight.” He expressed hope that the U.S. might discover the crucial components necessary for a peace agreement by the year’s end, or even sooner.
Witkoff also highlighted a peace proposal from Russia that includes the eastern Ukrainian region of Donetsk, which remains partially occupied by Russian forces. This proposal has been framed as significant “progress” in the ongoing negotiations.
However, Ukraine and its allies have consistently maintained that the conflict can only conclude when Russia halts its extensive invasion, which began in the winter of 2022. The Kremlin has thus far refused to withdraw unless Ukraine concedes to its demands, including the relinquishment of strategically important territories in the east of the country.
